PETRUS FLANDERS
“Petrus Flanders” is not a widely known person but a common shorthand for a type of Belgian beer called a
Flanders Red Ale produced by the Brouwerij De Brabandere.
The brewery has a line of “Petrus” beers, which include several sour ales, such as Petrus Aged Pale, Petrus Roodbruin, and Petrus Bordeaux, all of which fall under the general style of Flanders Red Ale. The name “Petrus” refers to four of the family’s forefathers who shared that name.
The beer is known for its distinctive sour, fruity, and complex flavor profile, often involving aging in large oak barrels (foeders) for up to two years.
