Baladin Beer Mama Kriek Sour Cherry Ale 750ml
Traditionally, kriek is made by breweries in and around Brussels using lambic beer to which sour cherries (with the pits) are added. Baladin uses their WAYAN Saison ale as the base for Mama Kriek and adds Griotta (Morello) cherries. The cherries are left in for a period of several months, causing a re-fermentation of the additional sugar. Typically no sugar will be left so there will be a fruit flavour without sweetness. There will be a further maturation process in the bottle after the cherries are removed. The cereal grains that Baladin uses for its beers are farmed organically, and are 85% locally grown.
Mama Kriek’s aroma is yeasty, with high-toned cherry hints, citrus aromas, orange blossoms, pear and bergamot. The beer is light to medium bodied with citrus and sour cherry flavours, slight underlying spice, fizzy and refreshing. Perfect as an aperitif.
Water, barley malt , wheat malt , wheat, spelled , rye , buckwheat, hops, cherry pulp (19.5% of the product), mixture of spices, citrus peel and aromatic plants in varying proportions, sugar, yeast.
